Spirited Away

Based on the beloved Studio Ghibli film by Hayao Miyazaki, Spirited Away tells the story of ten-year-old Chihiro. When her family takes a wrong turn during a move to a new city, they stumble through a mysterious tunnel into what appears to be an abandoned amusement park. Her parents are transformed, and Chihiro finds herself trapped in a world of gods and spirits.

To survive and rescue her parents, she strikes a deal with the greedy witch Yubaba and begins working in a towering bathhouse. It is here, surrounded by strange creatures and ancient magic, that she learns courage, resilience and the importance of never forgetting who she truly is.

The centrepiece of the stage design is the bathhouse itself: a massive, multi-storey wooden construction that continuously rotates on STS automation. This constant rotation brings the audience into the disorienting, magical world of the story. Beyond the revolving set wagon, STS also supplied winches for the hoist installation, enabling scenic elements and characters to move vertically through the space. The technical complexity of this production reflects the richness of the source material.
