This is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most impressive musicals and is based on the classic 1950 Billy Wilder film. The story is set in Hollywood in the 1950s, when Norma Desmond, once one of Hollywood’s biggest stars in the silent film industry, starts working on her comeback. Since movies are now made with sound, silent movies will no longer be made. The young screenwriter Joe Gillis is employed to give Norma Desmond a hand, but Norma falls in love with him. Sunset Boulevard the musical, since its premiere in 1993 in London, has also performed in Los Angeles, and won nine Drama League Awards. It performed for almost three years on Broadway and was awarded seven Tony Awards and two Outer Critics Circle awards.
The 2008 Dutch national tour, was produced by Stage Entertainment. The automation consisted of a rotating ring inside a wheel. The rotating elements had their own power supply and controls. Communication with the desk was wireless.
