Project scope

The musical Oliver! opened at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London. STS have automated 8 lifts, 2 bridges, 6 sliders, 18 tracks, 4 winches and 4 opening doors. The musical is based on the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. The first musical of Oliver! was created in 1960 in London and then four years later on Broadway. Four years later, in 1968, the book was filmed. The producer is Cameron Mackintosh. In the Drury Lane production, Rowan Atkinson played the role of Fagin, the gang leader who wants to include Oliver in this gang.

Oliver Twist was a protest against the abuses of that time. Child labour in the so-called workhouses and the underworld with street criminals, played a major part in the book. The protagonist, Oliver Twist, is an orphan boy through whose eyes we are in the middle of the 19th century.
