Dirty Dancing was a popular film in the 1980s. In 2004 a musical version opened in Sydney. At the end of September 2006, the first performance took place at the Aldwych Theatre in London, produced by Karl Sydow & Jacobsen Entertainment and directed by James Powell. It starred Georgina Rich and Josef Brown, dancers from the original Australian production.
Eleanor Bergstein wrote the original story which was based on her own childhood and experiences of family vacations in the Catskill Mountains. The film, directed by Emile Ardolino, starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, told the story of the romance between teenager Frances and dance instructor Johnny Castle at a holiday camp in the early ’60s. Hieruit zijn heel wat wereldhits geboren zoals Big Girls Don’t Cry, Hungry Eyes, en Do You Love Me? Worldwide hits like ‘Hungry Eyes’, and ‘Do You Love Me?’ were the result of this film.
Dirty Dancing includes two STS automated revolves, four lifts, including the pit lift, two LED screens, three LX boxes and various special effects. We have also supplied seven winches. This installation is in conjunction with Bader.
The inner revolve has two rotating lift platforms, and a lift which rises to reveal a door. The winches that are used are linked to the counterbalanced system. The winches are equipped with absolute encoders so that, in the event of a power failure, the positional information is retained.
The effect of a falling tree is achieved using a hydraulic servo-controlled pump which is a central pump with valves..
The OptiStage2000, the forerunner of ‘The Composer’ desk, is used to operate this automated show, in conjunction with a UPS. De vier analoge sliders garanderen een maximale controle door de operator. The four analog sliders ensure maximum control by the operator.
